Democrat Beth Doglio and incumbent Democrat Jessica Bateman were in the lead Tuesday night in the races for Position 1 and 2 in the 22nd Legislative District.

Republican challengers Loretta Byrnes and Kate Plager are expected to move on to oppose them in the Nov. 8 general election for the two state House seats.

Doglio — who gave up the seat Bateman now holds to run unsuccessfully for Congress in 2020 — had just over 52% of the primary votes for Position 1, receiving 10,807 votes. Byrnes had around 19% of the vote with a total of 4,012 votes.

In total, 20,778 votes had been counted for this race as of Tuesday. Republican Sans M. Gilmore, who received 2,370 votes, and Democrat Maria Siguenza, who received 2,094 votes, won’t move on to the general election. Neither will Sarah Leon, who received 955 votes, or Anthony Keen, who received 517.

In the Position 2 race, Bateman had received almost 63% of the vote with 13,011 votes. She is followed by Republican Kate Plager with 6,291 votes, or about 30% of the vote.

About 20,697 votes have been counted for this race so far. Democrat Kevin Young received 1,360 votes, not enough to move onto the general election.

More ballots will be counted each day this week as they arrive via mail. The official results will be certified on Aug. 16 by the canvassing board. The general election is Nov. 8.
