The potentially serious reason there’s a hamburger recall at Publix stores
Two lots of smashburger-style hamburgers have been recalled from Publix stores for a labeling mistake that can have “serious or potentially life-threatening” consequences.
DiLuigi Foods discovered lot numbers that start with 16B21 and 16C21 of DiLuigi Smashables The Original Style Smashburger don’t have milk listed among the allergens on the label. While not a problem for most people, those with food allergies check ingredient listings as if their health depended on it — because it does.
“The issue was identified during a review of our production run, which revealed that a limited quantity of product was inadvertently labeled incorrectly,” said DiLuigi’s recall notice, which was posted to the Publix website. “As a result, individuals with an allergy or sensitivity to milk may be at risk of a serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.”

The recalled lots have a Use By date of 6/13/26. They went to stores in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia.
