Lori Vallow Daybell, mom of missing Idaho children, arrested in Hawaii, has $5M bail

The Kauai Police Department in Hawaii announced Thursday on Twitter that Lori Vallow Daybell has been arrested on an Idaho warrant in connection to the investigation into her two missing children, which is being conducted by the Rexburg Police Department.

Lori Daybell has been charged with two felony counts of desertion and nonsupport of dependent children, according to the Kauai Police Department. She is also charged with resisting or obstructing officers, criminal solicitation to commit a crime and contempt of court.

Kauai Police has planned a press conference for 5 p.m. MT Friday in Lihue, Hawaii.

“First of all, we wish to thank the public for the massive outpouring of concern regarding this case,” Kauai Police Chief Todd G. Raybuck said on Twitter. “We also want to thank everyone for their patience while investigators worked diligently to comprehensively gather everything they needed in order to obtain this arrest warrant.”

Lori Daybell failed to comply with a court order to produce her children or their whereabouts to authorities by Jan. 30 in Madison County, Idaho. Tylee Ryan, 17, and Joshua “J.J.” Vallow, 7, have been missing since September, and their story has sparked national attention. According to the Kauai Police Department, there is no indication that the children are on the Hawaiian island, which is where the Daybells have been living for at least a month.

Chad Daybell, Lori’s husband but not the children’s father, was not arrested or charged.

Lori Daybell is being held at KPD CellBlock on $5 million bail, according to a tweet from the Kauai Police Department. She will attend a hearing on the island and will have the opportunity to waive or fight her extradition to Idaho, police said.

“We are elated. We are relieved. We are ready for the next step which for Lori is: where are the kids? Where are the kids? Where are the kids?” Kay Woodcock, Joshua’s grandmother, told EastIdahoNews.com.

The Daybell case was featured by NBC’s “Dateline” program last week with a 2-hour special.
