Washington craves pizza from this chain the most during pandemic, report says
Washingtonians want pizza from one chain the most during the coronavirus pandemic — and it’s not what most Americans are craving, a new report said.
The state’s residents have ordered from Papa Murphy’s more than any other pizza restaurant chain since mid-March, according to the report from Top Data.
Little Caesars was the favorite in 24 states, beating out other chains, the report says.
In Washington, the popularity of Papa Murphy’s was followed by Papa John’s, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut and Domino’s, the report said.
Pizza chains took a big hit in sales during the coronavirus pandemic, although some fared much better than others, the data company found. Little Caesars, despite being the overall favorite, saw a 6% drop in visits, according to Top Data.
“Overall visits” to pizza restaurants fell by 20%, according to the report.
The West Coast has ordered more than just pizza during the pandemic. The region’s most popular cuisine for delivery included “burritos, bacon, and french toast for breakfast, create your own pizzas, miso soup, and orange chicken for lunch, spicy tuna rolls, chicken tikka masala, and mongolian beef for dinner, and stuffed jalapenos, mini churros, and cheesecake for their late night cravings,” DoorDash said in a report released in July.
Washington is using a “four-phase, county-by-county ‘Safe Start’ reopening plan” during the pandemic, the state’s coronavirus response website says. Counties in Phase 2 are able to open restaurants for dine-in services with restrictions such as half capacity and a limit of five people per table.
Seventeen counties are in Phase 2, 17 are in Phase 3 and no counties have been cleared for Phase 4. Washington has 72,703 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,890 deaths as of Aug. 28, according to Johns Hopkins University.
