A driver plunged 200 feet off the Pacific Coast Highway in California and died, officials said.
The car flew off the highway and over a cliff Monday morning near Gray Whale Cove and south of Devils Slide in San Mateo County, firefighters with the San Mateo-Santa Cruz Cal Fire unit said.
Witnesses said the driver got out of the wrecked car, but then fell farther down the cliff, according to CBS SF.
The driver was rescued by firefighter paramedics and taken by ambulance in critical condition to a local hospital, Cal Fire said. She was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to NBC Bay Area.
San Francisco California Highway Patrol public information officer Mark Andrews told NBC Bay Area that the woman was driving alone.
