Gas prices reach the highest recorded price in US and WA, how to still save
On Wednesday, the United States reached its highest recorded average gas price, as the national average reached $4.40 a gallon, according to AAA.
Gas prices have continued to increase since March 2022 and now have reached record levels, with some states averaging almost $6.00 a gallon.
Gas prices vary throughout the states, as states such as Missouri, Kansas, Georgia and Oklahoma still average less than $4.00 a gallon. States with the highest averages are Washington, California, Nevada and Hawaii.
Washington state has the fourth-highest gas prices in the country, following California, Hawaii and Nevada.
Washington also set a new highest recorded average price on Wednesday as prices increased to $4.89 a gallon, a two-cent increase from Tuesday, and a 21-cent jump from April.
Throughout Washington state, gas prices range from highs of $5.46 a gallon in San Juan County to as low as $4.47 in Asotin County.
Finding the cheapest gas
Finding the most affordable gas in your area can be difficult during these extremely high gas costs, but some apps compare gas stations in your area to find you the best price.
Apps such as Gas Buddy and Waze use your phone’s location or zip code to locate the nearest gas stations and report their prices in real-time.
