Puget Sound Energy is now allowing some customers in Washington state to purchase clean energy for their homes by adding shares of local solar energy to their bill.

Puget Sound Energy will be launching a new Community Solar site near Ellensburg this November. Customers across the state will be able to subscribe to shares of the energy produced by the Manastash Ridge solar site, according to a news release from Puget Sound Energy.

Customers can get more information and subscribe to a site online. According to the website, Puget Sound Energy customers can subscribe to any community solar site, regardless of location. As more community solar sites are built, more subscriptions will become available for customers.

For those interested in purchasing a subscription, here are a few things to know:

Subscriptions cost $20 per month and are automatically added to customers’ regular electricity bills.

Subscriptions are for a minimum length of one year.

The energy that is generated by a share will offset a portion of a customer’s monthly subscription fee as an energy credit on their bill.

One share is equal to 1.46kW of local solar energy. Energy credits are equal to $0.045 per kWh generated by a share.

Customers can subscribe to shares in one or more sites, up to 120% of their average annual electricity usage.

If a site is fully subscribed, potential customers can be added to a waitlist.
