‘Can’t park there.’ Small boat left abandoned in Washington forest is the butt of jokes
A small abandoned boat was dumped in a forest in Washington, and people can’t seem to stop making jokes about it on social media.
The deserted boat was found in the Yacolt Burn State Forest in southwest Washington in October by a worker, a spokesperson for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources told McClatchy News in an email.
The department tweeted a photo of the vessel on Thursday, Nov. 10, and captioned it, “How many times do we have to tell you people: PACK OUT YOUR SHIP.”
This tweet was followed by another pun: “We said seize the trails not seas the trails.”
People on Twitter then started cracking jokes.
“You can’t park there mate,” one person wrote.
Another person said, “I sea what you did there.”
“The tides must have been WILD,” someone else said.
“Some people just don’t care aboat the environment anymore these days,” one person wrote.
It’s illegal to leave a boat in the forest. It falls under illegal dumping, the agency’s spokesperson said.
“It is a violation of this section to abandon a junk vehicle upon any property ... no person shall throw, drop, deposit, discard, or otherwise dispose of litter upon any public property in the state or upon private property in this state not owned by him or her or in the waters of this state,” according to the Revised Code of Washington law.
The Yacolt Burn State Forest is about 45 miles northeast of Portland, Oregon.
