Landslide brings Amtrak Cascades’ most popular route to a halt for two days. What we know
If you have a ticket for an Amtrak trip between Seattle and Portland Dec. 5-7, check your inbox for emails regarding trip cancellations and alternative transportation. All customers with tickets during this time should receive emails shortly.
Due to a landslide in Clark County near the Oregon-Washington border, all train service between Portland and Seattle has been canceled through 8:30 a.m. Dec. 7, according to a spokesperson with the Washington State Department of Transportation, Janet Matkin.
The 48-hour moratorium follows the unexpected stop of traffic near Vancouver, Washington around 8:30 a.m. Dec. 5, due to mud and debris in the tracks, according to Kendall Kirkham Sloan, BNSF Director of External Communications.
Alternative transportation will be provided for ticketholders affected by this closure.
Trains between Portland and Eugene, or Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. are unaffected.
The route between Seattle and Portland is scheduled to run two more daily roundtrips (bringing the total to 12) starting Dec. 11.
