A teen was on her way to school when a stranger jumped from the bushes and grabbed her, Washington officials said.

Between 8:10 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. the 14-year-old girl was blocks away from Heritage High School in Vancouver when a man came from the bushes, grabbed her from behind and tried putting a piece of fabric over her face, according to a Sept. 9 news release by Clark County deputies.

The girl managed to break free and ran to the school, officials said.

She wasn’t injured during the attack, deputies said.

The teen described the man as 5 feet and 9 inches tall, with a slender build, black hair, and brown eyes, officials said.

He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, a black T-shirt and a disposable mask, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact lawrence.zapata@clark.wa.gov, the release said.

Vancouver is on Washington’s border with Oregon, just north of Portland.
