Another wave of No Kings rallies is planned in Washington this weekend, about four months after protesters gathered at sites around the state to demonstrate against President Donald Trump and his policies.

Like the June 14 protests, these new rallies on Saturday, Oct. 18, in Tacoma, Olympia, Bellingham, Tri-Cities and other communities statewide are in coordination with similar No Kings protests scheduled nationwide.

Over 2,500 rallies and protests are planned in the U.S., The Fresno Bee reported.

“In June, we did what many claimed was impossible: peacefully mobilized millions of people to take to the streets and declare with one voice: America has No Kings,” according to the national No Kings website.

The new events are “in response to the increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration, which they have doubled down on since June,” the website said.

What is No Kings Day?

Organizers have described No Kings Day as a time to unite people in “nonviolent protest against Trump’s authoritarian actions and power grabs,” The Fresno Bee reported.

Melinda Holman, a member of Olympia Indivisible — which is helping organize the Olympia rally – said in a news release that, “we celebrate the unity we share as communities throughout the nation who cherish one another and our shared rights and freedoms” on No Kings Day.

Holman added that, “we’ll also be making a public, peaceful, energetic statement that in America, we don’t do kings.”

Prior to the June rallies, Trump said, “I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get stuff approved,” according to CBS News.

Why are people protesting President Trump?

The No King website says, “we’re standing together against” cruelty, corruption and abuses of power.

The Trump Administration “has defied our courts, deported American citizens, disappeared people off the streets, and slashed our services — all while orchestrating a massive giveaway to their billionaire allies,” it said.

Anya Woodhall, a member of Evergreen Resistance — another group helping organize the Olympia rally — said “Trump and his billionaire cronies are attempting to divide the American people with intimidation and lies, but we remain united because we are fighting out of love for each others’ basic liberties,” per a news release.

Woodhall added, “No matter what my neighbors believe, I stand for their children’s right to live in a just and free society.”
