2 Powerball tickets sold near Tacoma just miss jackpot — but still win big

Two Powerball tickets sold in Western Washington missed the top prize but still won $50,000 each, a state lottery official said.

One lucky ticket matched four winning numbers plus the Powerball in the main drawing on Monday, Nov. 24, according to a spokesperson for Washington’s Lottery.

The other matched four winning numbers plus the Powerball in the Double Play drawing on the same day, the state lottery spokesperson said.

Where were winning Powerball tickets sold in Washington?

In Washington state, winning Powerball tickets were sold in University Place and Tukwila, both near Tacoma, the lottery official said in a Nov. 25 email to The News Tribune.

The University Place ticket was purchased at Fred Meyer, 6305 West Bridgeport Way in University Place, while the Tukwila ticket was bought at a Jacksons convenience store at 13138 South Interurban Ave.

Tukwila is about a 24-mile drive northwest from Tacoma.

The Tukwila ticket won with the Double Play add-on, which costs $1 and allows players in select areas another chance to win using the same numbers they played in the main drawing, according to the Powerball website.

The Double Play drawing happens after the main drawing and has a top prize of $10 million.

What were winning Powerball numbers?

The winning Powerball numbers were 8, 16, 26, 30 and 58, with a Powerball of 14, in Monday’s drawing, the Powerball site said.

No one won the $655 million grand prize on Monday, but a ticket sold in Illinois won $1 million.

The winning Double Play numbers on Nov. 24 were 4, 7, 48, 65 and 68, with a Powerball of 24, per the Powerball site.

No tickets hit the $10 million grand prize nationwide. A ticket in Florida won $500,000.

The odds of winning the Powerball and Double Play grand prizes are both one in 292,201,338, according to the Powerball website.

What to know about Powerball lottery game

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 U.S. states, plus Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Players may choose their own numbers or have them randomly selected.

“The jackpot is won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball,” according to the Powerball website, which noted that “the Powerball jackpot grows until it is won.”

Powerball drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time and can be streamed online.

What’s the current Powerball jackpot?

The Powerball jackpot grew an estimated $681 million, with a cash value of $315.7 million, the Powerball website said.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

The next Powerball drawing will be held at 7:59 pm Pacific Time on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
