YWCA announces its 27th annual fundraiser

A domestic violence expert will talk about the economic impact of abuse on communities at the 27th annual luncheon hosted by YWCA Walla Walla.

The nonprofit's largest annual outreach event will be at the Marcus Whitman Hotel ballroom from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 6. Proceeds from the benefit will support services that help women escape violence and rebuild their lives.

The fundraiser will feature Barry Goldstein as the keynote speaker, a national and international expert on domestic violence. According to YWCA's website, he specializes in current research on domestic abuse and using that research to drive reforms.

An award will be presented to a community member who has helped empower women, children and minorities.

Tickets are $65 per person. The organization is also accepting event sponsors through Friday, April 17.

YWCA is a nonprofit with a stated mission of empowering women, eliminating racism and promoting peace. YWCA Walla Walla's signature program is the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Resource Center, which includes a domestic violence shelter, counseling and support groups. The organization also operates a 24/7 domestic violence and sexual assault hotline and runs two child care centers in Walla Walla and Dayton.

In 2025, YWCA raised $96,920.39 at its luncheon as 400 community members, leaders and supporters gathered at the event.
