Walla Walla developer proposes neighborhood, hotel off Mill Creek Road
A draft agreement between the city of Walla Walla and a developer proposing a neighborhood, hotel and commercial development in east Walla Walla off Mill Creek Road is open for public comment and review.
MC Gateway LLC is proposing a planned community on about 355 acres between Mill Creek Road and U.S. 12, east of Walla Walla Community College.
The community would include 670 single-family homes and townhomes, a 150-room hotel, 80,000 square feet of commercial or restaurant building space, and a park and trail system.
The land is within the city limits and in the Urban Planned Communities zone, which requires a development agreement to be approved before development.
The agreement outlines the development standards and conditions before development can begin. It often includes standards for environmental mitigation measures, housing densities and project phasing.
The developer applied for the development agreement on Feb. 10, and it opened to public comment after the application was marked complete in March.
A public hearing is required before the City Council can approve a development proposal.
The City Council decided on Wednesday, April 8, that the city's hearing examiner, a legal expert who specializes in land use topics, would conduct that public hearing.
A date for the hearing has not yet been set.
Residents can share comments about the project until 5 p.m. Thursday, April 23. Those comments will be forwarded to the hearing examiner, who will host the hearing and pass a recommendation along to the City Council.
All the application materials are available for review on the city's Development Services webpage under "Public Notices."
Comments can be submitted to 55 E. Moore St. in Walla Walla or via email to permits@wallawallawa.gov.
