Morton Action Sports Alliance to hold launch party as it seeks to build skate park

Members of the Morton Action Sports Alliance (MASA) are preparing to hold a launch party on Thursday, April 16, at Morton's Roxy Theater from 6 to 8 p.m. to introduce themselves to Morton residents and explain MASA's goal.

MASA is a newly formed nonprofit that MASA President Megan Petersen stated is seeking to build a new skate park in the East Lewis County community at the March Morton City Council meeting.

"Morton, and East Lewis County, is a skate park desert with rough roads and limited sidewalks to cruise on," Petersen said in a MASA news release. "The town needs a place for skateboards, inline-skates, rollerskates and bikes! The Morton Action Sports Alliance is on a mission to build a place for youth, young adults (and) families to ride. Whether you're learning a new sport, shredding the gnar or just want to have a picnic, a skate park and action sports facility will be an amazing addition to our community."

Following a short presentation on the benefits of outdoor recreational spaces, MASA members will be on hand to take questions from launch party attendees. Additionally, skate videos will be shown on the Roxy Theater's screen.

"This party's main purpose is to introduce the members of MASA to the community, discuss funding opportunities for the skate park, talk about volunteer opportunities and get a sense of how our community might help make this park a reality," Petersen said in the release.

In addition to the launch party being free to attend, attendees can also enjoy free sodas and a "limited supply" of pizza. "Get it while it's hot!" Petersen added.

For those who can't make it to Thursday's MASA launch party, more events to discuss designing and building a new skate park will be scheduled in the future.
