Scappoose driver killed on Highway 30 near Rainier

Authorities say a Scappoose man was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 30 Sunday evening after a Longview driver in a gray Subaru Outback hit him.

Ronald Craig Powers, 69, of Longview, crossed into the eastbound lane when heading west around 7:06 p.m. near Rainier, colliding with Randy Charles Bloom, 62, in a Ford Focus, according to an Oregon State Police press release.

Bloom was declared dead at the scene, while his passenger Shana Jean Bloom, 59, of Scappoose, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Powers was lifeflighted to a hospital with serious injuries as well.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, the press release states.

The highway was impacted for about six hours due to the investigation.

Rainier Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Columbia River Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted.
