The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office reports first responders found Elden Ragsdale, 18, of Longview, trapped under the side of a 1994 Toyota 4 Runner and dead in the 200 block of the gravel Maranatha Road, near the intersection of Rose Valley Road.

The call was dispatched at about 8 p.m., according to Chief Criminal Deputy Jordan Spencer.

Investigators suspect alcohol contributed to the accident and plan to submit their findings to prosecutors for possible criminal charges, the sheriff's office press release states.

Three other passengers were transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview by a private vehicle, but the driver, Jacob Manecke, Jr., 19, of Kelso, remained on the scene to speak with investigators.

Washington State Patrol, Kelso Police, Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, the Cowlitz County Coroner's Office, and the Cowlitz Chaplaincy assisted at the scene.

The sheriff's office reports the school district will offer resources to students in light of Ragsdale's death.

Ragsdale was not wearing a seatbelt, the sheriff's office reports.
