Two injured in Walnut Grove 4-car crash after driver fails to slow for stopped traffic

A four-car crash Monday night in the Walnut Grove area sent two people to the hospital, according to a news release from the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the crash about 7:40 p.m. on Northeast 78th Street, just west of 47th Avenue.

The Vancouver Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived first on scene to find a Chevrolet Trailblazer and a Subaru Forester with significant damage and a Toyota Highlander and a Subaru Outback with minor damage, the news release states.

Deputies said preliminary information indicates the Outback, Highlander and Forester were stopped in an eastbound lane of 78th Street at a red light for 47th Avenue. The Trailblazer failed to slow for the stopped traffic and struck the rear of the Forester, triggering a chain-reaction crash.

Both the driver and passenger of the Trailblazer suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. They were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, according to the news release. No other major injuries were reported.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office did not name any of the people involved.

Investigators said the driver of the Trailblazer showed signs of impairment, and they found corroborating evidence inside the vehicle. Investigators said they believe there are additional factors that may have contributed to the crash, according to the news release.

Deputies ask anyone with information related to this incident to contact trafficdetectives@clark.wa.gov and reference case 26003075.
