Trial set for Walla Walla man accused of assaulting baby
A June trial date has been set for a Walla Walla man accused of assaulting his 3-month-old daughter.
Dallas Fletcher-Granger, 27, is scheduled to stand trial Monday, June 15.
Fletcher-Granger is charged with five counts of first-degree assault of a child. His trial was set during his Thursday, April 23, arraignment hearing where he pleaded not guilty to all five charges.
As of Friday, April 24, Fletcher-Granger remained in the Walla Walla County Jail. According to the jail roster, his bail is set at $500,000.
Fletcher-Granger is accused of striking the baby with a closed fist, fracturing her skull and leaving bruises on her face, according to court documents.
Though the trial date has been set, trials in Walla Walla County are often delayed multiple times before a case makes it to a jury.
Speedy trial laws require that defendants have their trial date set within 60 days after the charges are filed if they are in custody, and 90 days if they are released. Waivers are often signed by defendants to approve delaying the trial while the prosecutor and defense attorney prepare.
First-degree assault of a child is a Class A felony. Though the maximum penalty for Class A felonies is life in prison, Washington sentencing laws require judges to sentence defendants on a standard range that is based on their criminal history.
Though his standard range has not been determined by the Department of Corrections yet, an online Washington court portal does not show any past convictions for Fletcher-Granger.
The standard range for such a crime for a defendant with no past convictions is 7¾ years to 10¼ years.
