One teen dies, two hospitalized in central Vancouver shooting

One teenage boy has died and two others remain hospitalized following a fight in a parking lot that ended in a shooting, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The police department originally reported that two males were wounded in a drive-by shooting about 8:30 p.m. Monday in central Vancouver. Investigators have since learned the incident began as an altercation between two groups of juveniles in the vicinity of Northeast 18th Street and Andresen Road.

At some point during the altercation, the juveniles pulled out guns and three people were shot, police said.

In its update, the police department did not clarify if the shooting occurred as a drive-by as originally reported.

Police said a 17-year-old boy who was taken to a hospital by first responders remains hospitalized. A 16-year-old boy who was dropped off at a local hospital about a half-hour after the shooting has died from his injuries.

Police said they also learned that a third boy, 16, drove himself to a Portland hospital with injuries that were determined to be not life threatening.

Police arrested a 17-year-old boy near the scene and booked him into the Robert L. Harris Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.

Authorities have not released the names of the teenagers involved.

No other arrests have been made. The investigation remains active.

Detectives are working to identify those responsible for the shooting.
