Woman rescued along Chuckanut Drive after being trapped in car for 3 days

A woman who said she was trapped in her car for three days was rescued Saturday from an embankment along Chuckanut Drive.

According to the State Patrol, officers got a call from the woman at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Her car was about 40 yards down an embankment, about four miles north of Bow, near milepost 11.

According to the State Patrol, the car was far enough down the embankment that it was not visible from the roadway, so no witnesses called to report it.

The woman collided with several trees while going down the embankment, officers said. A trooper on the scene said the accident was due to distracted driving.

When calling the State Patrol 911 line, if the person experiencing the emergency is calling from the scene, the State Patrol can use the coordinates of where the person is calling from.

State Patrol and first responders were able to locate the woman from her call and respond to the emergency.

The roadway had to be fully blocked from about 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, so first responders could help the driver out of the car and tow the car away.

Skagit and Whatcom County troopers responded to the scene.

South Whatcom Fire Authority, with assistance from Geneva and Samish Way stations and Skagit County Fire District 5, rescued the woman, who was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital.

The woman's injuries were not life-threatening, according to officials.
