Clark County Medical Examiner's Office identifies teen, 16, shot and killed Monday as Hector Edwin Soto Martinez
The Clark County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the Vancouver teenager shot and killed during an altercation Monday night in a central Vancouver parking lot.
Hector Edwin Soto Martinez, 16, died from a gunshot wound to his torso. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide, meaning it resulted from another person's deliberate action. The ruling does not make any judgments about criminal culpability.
Soto Martinez was wounded after a fight between two groups of juveniles near Northeast 18th Street and Andresen Road ended in gunfire.
Soto Martinez was dropped off at a local hospital roughly a half-hour after the altercation, which Vancouver police responded to about 8:30 p.m. The police department reported the next day that he had died from his injuries.
Police said Tuesday that a 17-year-old boy who was taken to a hospital by first responders remained hospitalized. A third boy, 16, drove himself to a Portland hospital with injuries that were determined to be not life threatening.
A 17-year-old boy found near the scene of the shooting was arrested and booked into the Robert L. Harris Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
Authorities have not released the names of the other teenagers involved.
No other arrests have been made. The investigation remains active.
Detectives said in a news release Tuesday they're still working to identify those responsible for the shooting.
