A person was trapped inside each vehicle: a mangled SUV on its side and another vehicle off the roadway, according to a Longview Fire Department notice.
Crew used hydraulic tools to extricate the victims. The person in critical condition was freed in 18 minutes, stabilized and life flighted for trauma care at a hospital.
Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue freed the person from the second vehicle and that patient was sent to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center, the report continues.
While Longview Fire and Cowlitz 2 members were working on the accident, crews from both departments were also working a fire at Kelso High School. The notice does not provide more information on that fire.
Longview police are investigating the cause of the wreck.
