Tuesday's Prep Roundup: Burlington-Edison girls' golf team wins county title

BURLINGTON - Burlington-Edison High School won the team title Tuesday at the Skagit County Girls' Golf Championships.

The Tigers finished with a five-golfer total of 233 for the nine-hole tournament, followed by Sedro-Woolley at 256, Mount Vernon at 263, Anacortes and Mount Vernon Christian.

Anacortes and Mount Vernon Christian did not field complete teams.

Burlington-Edison's Caity Horton and Mount Vernon's Liv Burton tied for medalist honors with rounds of 43. Horton also finished first last season.

Three Burlington-Edison golfers - Anna Horton, Kylee Vander Ark and Paige Dodds - tied Sedro-Woolley's Sammy Brown for second place, each having shot rounds of 47.

Girls' Tennis

SEDRO-WOOLLEY - The Cubs' wins came in singles in the Northwest Conference match.

Kylie Horkley won 6-4, 3-6, (10-6), and Junie Thompson won 6-4, 6-2.

Lakewood Cougars 4,

Anacortes Seahawks 3

ANACORTES - Lakewood had just enough to get past Anacortes.

In singles, Anacortes' Esther Jeong won 6-0, 6-0, while teammate Inara Spatafore won 6-1, 6-4

Anacortes' Carter Bowman and Claire Dekker won 7-5, 6-0 in doubles.

Boys' Golf

Northwest Conference

OAK HARBOR - Burlington-Edison won the final regular-season conference match.

Sedro-Woolley was fourth, Anacortes sixth and Mount Vernon 16th at Whidbey Island Golf Club

The Tigers had a five-golfer, 18-hole total of 404 while the Cubs finished at 426, the Seahawks at 428 and Bulldogs at 515.

Sedro-Woolley's Riley Friebel took medalist honors with a round of 74.

Burlington-Edison's Cael Hamilton and Anacortes' Vance Frerichs tied for second with rounds of 75.

Landis Revoir led Mount Vernon with an 87.

Softball

Sedro-Woolley Cubs 24,

Mount Vernon Bulldogs 0

MOUNT VERNON - The Cubs shut out the Bulldogs in the Northwest Conference game.

Sedro-Woolley finishes the regular season 13-0 in conference and 18-2 overall.

The Cubs have won 15 consecutive games and are No. 3 in Class 3A state RPI.

Mount Vernon finishes the regular season at 2-10 in conference and 2-11 overall.

Darrington Loggers 16,

Concrete Lions 6

DARRINGTON - The Loggers defeated the Lions in the Northwest 2B/1B League game.

Concrete is 0-9 in conference and 0-9 overall.

Boys' Soccer

Anacortes Seahawks 3

EVERETT - The Seahawks saw their season come to end with a loss in the play-in match of the Northwest 2A District Tournament.

"It was the Owens show," Anacortes coach Ross Ramsdell said in reference to Owen Jacobson and Owen Foley.

Jacobson scored the Seahawks' first goal off a corner kick by Foley.

Foley then scored a goal off a free kick and one off an indirect free kick with an assist from Jacobson.

Anacortes finishes its season 5-13.

Baseball

Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes 14,

Coupeville Wolves 1

COUPEVILLE - The Hurricanes cruised in the five-inning Northwest 2B/1B League win against the Wolves.

Mount Vernon Christian's Ezrah Hudson was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Jake Feddema 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI, and Grady Woodmansee 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Josh Feddema pitched the first four innings for the Hurricanes, allowing one run while striking out six and walking two. Zane Dahlberg struck out two in the final inning.

Mount Vernon Christian is 11-0 in league and 17-2 overall. It is No. 10 in Class 2B state RPI.
