Repair and Sustainability Fair scheduled for May 9 at Chehalis Outfitters

May 6-The WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter Volunteers and the Lewis County Solid Waste Utility have announced they will be offering a spring Repair and Sustainability Fair on May 9.

The Repair & Sustainability Fair is on tap from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chehalis Outfitters, 1757 N. National Ave., Chehalis.

Volunteer "fixers" will try their best to repair items or diagnose why they aren't working so residents can find the correct parts to try to mend it themselves.

Lewis County Solid Waste Utility and Lewis County WSU Master Recycler Composter Volunteers have brought together residents who are handy at a variety of crafts to repair clothing, furniture, electronics, bicycles and jewelry, and sharpen garden tools, scissors and knives, a news release from the WSU Master Recycler Composter Volunteers stated.

A sensitive document shredding truck will be on site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Outfitters parking lot.

Residents can bring up to five bags or boxes of documents they would like shredded. The shredded paper will be hauled to a paper recycling facility.

The repair event will host information booths on how to live a more sustainable life and a "stuff swap" table for people to donate gently used items that others might need.

The event is funded in part by a Local Solid Waste Financial Assistance Grant from the Washington Department of Ecology. For more information on this event and other upcoming events, visit www.lewiscountywa.gov/recycle.
