Randle Community Recycle Event to be held May 9

May 6-A Community Recycle Event will offer Lewis County residents an opportunity to recycle several materials and offer proper disposal for others, on Saturday, May 9, at the Lewis County Public Works Department Area 7 (Kiona) Road Shop at 8911 U.S. Highway 12 in Randle.

Computer and television recycling, appliance and scrap metal recycling, yard waste drop-off, and household hazardous waste collection will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the event, according to a news release from the sponsors of the event, the Lewis County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Utility.

Sensitive document shredding will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Certain recycling opportunities may end early, if containers fill up. No garbage will be accepted at the event.

All flat screen televisions, other TVs that are 42 inches or smaller, computer monitors and CPUs will be recycled. Each household is limited to two items.

Residents can drop off unwanted lawn or pool chemicals, cleaners, motor oil, antifreeze or pesticides, or other household chemicals for free so they can be recycled, or disposed of, properly.

Because this is a remote event, workers will not be able to empty containers brought to the event. Customers must be prepared to leave their containers at the event.

Limits and restrictions:

-Containers must be left at the event.

-15 fluorescent or CFL lights

-All automotive fluid; 5-gallon limit

-5 gallons of cooking oil

-No containers larger than 5 gallons

-No paint or PaintCare items. Check PaintCare.org to learn items that are accepted in the PaintCare program as well as PaintCare locations around Lewis County.

Any item that is more than 75 percent metal will be accepted. Drain fluids from motors before recycling. Appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers, dryers, hot water heaters and dish washers, are accepted, but there is a limit of two large appliances per household. Doors must be detached from refrigerators and freezers. They can be recycled with the unit, but they must be separate. For microwaves, remove the glass turntable and throw it away prior to coming to the event.

Residents may bring grass clippings, leaves and branches. No plastic bags. Residents are asked to empty the contents of yard waste bags into containers and dispose of bags in curbside garbage containers. No noxious weeds.

Customers may bring in up to five grocery bags of sensitive documents they would like to have shredded for free. The shredded paper will be taken to a paper recycling facility to be made into new paper.

This event is funded in part by a Local Solid Waste Financial Assistance Grant. Anyone with questions may call 360-740-1451 or email swu@lewiscountywa.gov.
