Swinomish, Samish tribes increase fuel discounts for tribal members
The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and the Samish Indian Nation are offering larger fuel discounts to tribal members as fuel prices soar largely due to the war in Iran.
The Swinomish Tribal Senate announced April 30 that "to help ease the burden of rising fuel prices on our community," it had temporarily increased the Swinomish tribal member discount to $1 per gallon.
The $1 discount at the tribe's three gas stations began May 1 and will run through the end of July.
The Samish Tribal Council increased the discount for tribal members at Samcor Fuel and Tobacco from 75 cents to $1.
"The Samish Indian Nation Tribal Council recognizes that rising fuel costs are placing added strain on many households," the tribe wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. "Supporting the well-being of our citizens remains a priority, especially during times when everyday expenses are increasing."
"We offer this support with appreciation for the strength and resilience of our community. The Tribal Council remains committed to standing with our citizens and responding thoughtfully to the challenges we face together."
The increased discount for Samish tribal members will run through August.
