FEMA to visit Packwood for flood relief response

May 11-The Federal Emergency Management Agency, along with other state and local partners, will open another disaster assistance center in the Packwood Community Hall to help locals impacted by December 2025 flooding apply for federal assistance.

The Lewis County Department of Emergency Management announced the reopening of a disaster assistance center in Packwood on Monday morning. The center will open for just three days from May 14 through May 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The community hall in Packwood already hosted a similar center run by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The reopening, which will also include the SBA, was spurred on after the Trump administration moved to approve disaster assistance funds to Washington state at the beginning of last month.

According to the news release, specialized staff from FEMA, the SBA and the Salvation Army will be at the center to help locals access disaster relief. Locals can apply for FEMA disaster assistance, which can include temporary housing assistance, money for basic home repairs and property losses.

Just like before FEMA funds were available, locals can also still apply for "low-interest disaster loans." Salvation Army staff will be available to connect residents with "disaster-related support services" and other resources for individuals and families affected by the December flooding.

The news release from the Lewis County DEM encourages any residents who experienced losses during the flood to visit the center, even if they have already benefited from other flood response resources. Those who have received local or state assistance may still be eligible for federal aid.

Residents with questions about the disaster assistance center can contact Lewis County DEM by sending an email to dem@lewiscountywa.gov.
