Candidates file for election in Chelan, Douglas counties
Candidates for public office in Chelan and Douglas counties filed last week with their local county auditors for this year's elections, with numerous contested races.
The primary election Aug. 4 and the general election Nov. 3.
If more than two candidates file for any elected position, the two candidates receiving the most votes in the primary election move on to the general election.
But before the primary election, would-be voters will need to know who is running for local public office.
State Rep. Brian Burnett is running for reelection for the District 12 Position 1 against Stacy Willoughby, Chelan banker. State Rep. Mike Steele is running against two contenders as part of his reelection - Maggie Adams, of Snoqualmie and Adam James, Grace City Church pastor.
The outgoing Wenatchee Valley Fire Chief Brian Brett filed to run for Chelan County Auditor against Brandt Cappell, who also filed for the seat after he was recently appointed to the position to finish the remaining time on Skip Moore's last term.
Chelan County Clerk Marty Young is also running for reelection against three other opponents: Sandra Arechiga, a county court facilitator; Charlene Beck, a court-approved transcriptionist; and Samantha J. Thompson, the county clerk's office records administrator.
Chelan County Commissioner Shon Smith for District 2 has filed for reelection for his seat against Nathanial Hellisgo, a consulting firm's operations specialist, and Leavenworth City Council member Clint Strand.
Chelan County Deputy Stan Langlow is running against his boss, Sheriff Mike Morrison, for the top job in the sheriff's office. And across the Columbia River in Douglas County, three people have thrown their hat to replace Kevin Morris, who retired from the election position this year.
Tyler Caille, previously the undersheriff, was appointed to fill out Morris's remaining term and is running this year along with Adam Musgrove, a Chelan County Sheriff's Office Sergeant, and Keith Siebert, the former Quincy Police chief.
Douglas County Commissioner Marc Straub is running for reelection against Michael Lesky, of Orondo, for the District 3 seat.
Doug Miller, currently a Wenatchee city council member, filed this year for Chelan County Treasurer against Rick Viall, a Chelan financial advisor.
Douglas County Clerk Jenn Biggar is running against clerk's office employee Andrea Jester.
People can find a full list of everyone who has filed for every elected position in the state online.
