The following are criminal cases heard recently in Skagit County Superior Court:
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
A 43-year-old Mount Vernon man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and four counts of violating a protection order.
According to court records, in November 2024 Jesus Guadalupe Sanchez repeatedly contacted a woman who had a protection order against him.
The contact was by phone while Sanchez was being held in the Skagit County Community Justice Center.
In exchange for his guilty pleas, Sanchez had six other charges dropped.
KIDNAPPING, BURGLARY
A 35-year-old Marysville man pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree conspiracy to commit kidnapping, conspiracy to commit burglary, three counts of violating a court order, and two counts of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to court records, prosecutors will recommend a sentence for Kartimus Leondray James of six years, 4 1/4 months in prison.
James is set to be sentenced Aug. 20.
Records state that the crimes occurred in 2022 and 2023.
On Jan. 1, 2022, James and two other men robbed a man in Mount Vernon.
The men taped the man to the seat of his vehicle in the parking lot of the Mount Vernon library, and while one man watched the man the other two went to his apartment where they held the man's mother and 13-year-old sister at gunpoint while they stole about $14,000 in cash.
James was identified as a suspect through DNA obtained from the tape.
On March 11, 2022, James was found to be in possession of two firearms. As a convicted felon, he was not allowed to possess firearms.
In exchange for his guilty pleas, James had three other charges dropped.
MAIL THEFT
A 35-year-old Burlington man was sentenced to five years, one month in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to mail theft, attempted possession of a stolen vehicle and violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
According to court records, on Dec. 18, 2023, Thomas Allen Christian took mail from mailboxes on Blodgett Road south of Mount Vernon.
In January 2025, Christian was found to be attempting to possession of a stolen vehicle, and delivering fentanyl to another person.
