The following are criminal cases heard recently in Skagit County Superior Court:

VEHICULAR ASSAULT

A 20-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to vehicular assault.

According to court records, on Oct. 27, 2024, Noah Thomas Jared Viele caused a vehicle collision in Mount Vernon that resulted in one man being paralyzed from the neck down.

Records state that at about 2:30 a.m. on LaVenture Road near 19th Street Viele was driving 92 mph in a 35 mph zone five seconds before the crash.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Viele had a second charge dropped.

ASSAULT

A 28-year-old Mount Vernon man was sentenced to five years, three months in prison Friday after pleading guilty to seven charges.

According to court records, Jose Allan Velazquez pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, harassment, residential burglary, malicious mischief and two counts of violating a protection order.

The crimes were committed from October 2023 to December 2023.

Court records state that on Oct. 27, 2023, Velazquez struck the doors and windows of a vehicle belonging to a woman, causing damage to the vehicle. He also kicked the door of a home where the woman was.

Court records state that on Nov. 23, 2023, Velazquez had possession of a knife during an altercation with a woman in Mount Vernon. He also struck the woman in the face.

Velazquez later violated a no-contact order the woman had obtained.
