Sedro-Woolley representation on Skagit Transit board remains unclear

Who exactly will represent the city of Sedro-Woolley on the Skagit Transit Board of Directors remained in question Wednesday following a meeting of the board.

On the board's agenda was a review of the composition of the board as well as the approval of revised bylaws for the board.

However, both items were removed from the agenda after the board deemed it necessary to clarify the question of representation.

The situation stems from a May 6 meeting of the Sedro-Woolley City Council, where at the request of Mayor JoEllen Kesti the council removed Councilmember Paul Cocke as a Skagit Transit board member and replaced him with Councilmember Karl de Jong.

Cocke had served on the board the past four months after being named to the position by former Mayor Julia Johnson.

The change in representation, however, was disagreed with by Skagit Transit Chief Executive Officer Crystle Stidham as well as the transit agency's lawyer.

Kesti serves on the Skagit Transit board.
