Third defendant sentenced for 2023 Toledo murder of Navjot Singh

May 25-The third defendant convicted in the 2023 Toledo murder of Navjot Singh was sentenced in Lewis County Superior Court on May 20.

Taylor Lenihan, 19, of Redding, California, will serve no further jail time after a judge sentenced her to 364 days in jail with 547 days of credit for time served.

The 30-year-old Singh, a Toledo-area gas station worker, was murdered by Daniel Keough and Quinton Ramey during a robbery attempt. Keough was 15 at the time. Ramey was 17.

Court documents indicated that Keough and Ramey were suspects in an armed robbery in Florence, Oregon, that occurred just days before Singh's murder.

Lenihan, who was 16 at the time of the murder, had previously pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted robbery; second-degree accomplice liability unlawful firearm possession; and accomplice liability possession of a stolen firearm shortly after her arrest in May 2023.

On Oct. 31, 2024, Lenihan was released from jail on her own recognizance to await sentencing.

In November 2024, Ramey pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and made a Barr plea to one count of first-degree theft. Barr pleas allow defendants to plead guilty to amended charges they did not commit in order to benefit from a plea deal.

Ramey was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

In his guilty plea statement, Ramey said he "took a substantial step in the commission of an armed robbery, and, in the course of and in furtherance of the robbery, my accomplice Daniel Keough caused the death of Navjot Singh, who was not a participant in the crime."

In February, Keough was sentenced to 24 years and seven months in prison in Lewis County Superior Court for Singh's murder and crimes committed during an attempted escape from the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center early last year.

Prior to his sentencing, Keough made Barr pleas to second-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

In his guilty plea statement, Keough said he "entered the Shell station in Toledo with a shotgun with the intent of robbing the store."

"I pointed the shotgun at the employee working at the time," Keough said. "... Mr. Singh grabbed for the shotgun, a struggle ensued and I shot him. I was 15 at the time."

During Lenihan's May 20 sentencing, defense attorney Don Blair made a motion asking the court to allow Lenihan to withdraw her guilty plea for first-degree attempted robbery.

"Ms. Lenihan has fulfilled her obligations under the plea agreement in this case," the attorney's affidavit said.

Judge Paul Strophy granted the request.

Lenihan then made a Barr plea to the amended charge of first-degree theft.
