Tonasket student, father arrested after alleged school threat posts

A Tonasket School District student and his father were arrested early Tuesday after the student allegedly posted disturbing messages on social media followed by threats directed at students.

The Okanogan County Sheriff's Office said school officials contacted deputies about 5:30 p.m. Monday regarding disturbing social media posts made by an unidentified person, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff's office.

Authorities said the posts referenced a previous school shooting, raising concerns among school staff. Shortly afterward, students began receiving "threatening messages" from the same social media account.

Investigators identified the person behind the account as a student. The student's identity was not released because he is a minor.

The student and his father were arrested shortly after midnight.

The sheriff's office said there is no active threat to the school, though the investigation remains ongoing.

"The Sheriff's Office takes all threats involving schools and student safety seriously. We encourage parents and students to immediately report suspicious activity, threatening behavior, or concerning social media posts to law enforcement or school officials," the Facebook post said.
