NCW communities honor fallen service members on Memorial Day
Memorial Day celebrations across North Central Washington began Monday at Evergreen Memorial Park & Mausoleum in East Wenatchee.
The service was organized by the Wenatchee Valley Patriotic Council.
The memorial service began at 9 a.m., and the cemetery was filled with small American flags recognizing those who served and died in the military.
Several dignitaries attended, including East Wenatchee Mayor Jerrilea Crawford.
At 10 a.m., Wenatchee honored fallen service members at the Wenatchee Cemetery and Mausoleum.
An American salute was given to fallen heroes. Wenatchee Mayor Mike Poirier, along with several other dignitaries, attended the ceremony.
At 11 a.m., Cashmere held its Memorial Day observance at the city cemetery, where nearly 800 American flags decorated the grounds for the memorial program. A military truck and two vintage fire trucks were also displayed during the service.
At 11:30 a.m., a wreath-laying ceremony took place behind the Pybus Public Market boat launch to honor those lost at sea during military service.
At noon, a new memorial ceremony was held inside the market honoring prisoners of war and service members missing in action. Both Poirier and Crawford attended the service.
At 12:30 p.m., Quincy held its memorial service at the city cemetery. Large American flags lined the cemetery borders, while smaller flags were placed at gravesites throughout the grounds.
During each ceremony, taps were played, 21-gun salutes were performed and tributes were paid to all branches of the military.
Additional Memorial Day observances were held throughout central Washington, including in Ephrata and Soap Lake.
The day's events in North Central Washington concluded with a Memorial Day parade scheduled through downtown Chelan.
