In Focus: Highly Capable Centralia students showcase Disney's Imagineering in a Box projects
May 29-The Highly Capable program's symposium was held at Fords Prairie Elementary in Centralia on Wednesday, May 27.
The night showcased individual projects that students in grades 3 through 6 in the Highly Capable program created that were inspired by Disney's Imagineering in a Box curriculum.
According to the school district, The Imagineering in a Box curriculum was created to help students understand how multiple disciplines work together to create immersive experiences, from storytelling and design to engineering and mathematics.
Each student chose a theme based on a personal passion and then made experiences and attractions based on that theme for a land that would be added to Disneyland.
Each of these lands were on display for the public to view on the evening of the symposium.
"Our goal is to provide highly capable learners with opportunities to innovate, collaborate and stretch their creativity in meaningful ways," the district wrote in an email. "This symposium encourages students to imagine big ideas while applying academic and creative skills in exciting new ways."
