Chelan County Commissioners interview 3 auditor candidates to finish Skip Moore's term

Chelan County Commissioners interviewed three candidates in executive session Tuesday to serve as county auditor for the remainder of Skip Moore's elected term, including Moore.

The auditor handles all elections, recordings and licensing duties for Chelan County. Moore held the role from 2009 until he retired April 30.

His latest elected term ends Dec. 31.

Moore was elected as a Republican, which means that when he resigned before his term expired, the Chelan County Republican Party would be responsible for creating a list of potential replacements to finish the remainder of his term.

The local republican party provides the list to the commissioners, who then make the final choice for their appointment.

Commissioners interviewed Moore, Brandt Cappell and Aaron Young for the position Tuesday. Cappell is the chief deputy auditor for the county and is running for auditor in the 2026 general election. Aaron Young was previously the Chelan County Republican Chair and is currently running for Chelan County PUD Commissioner Position 1.

No action was taken, with further discussions scheduled next week with the commissioners.
