Skagit County seeking applications for vacant seat on Planning Commission

Skagit County is accepting applications for a vacant seat on its Planning Commission.

Applicants must live in Commissioner District 2, which includes Mount Vernon, Conway, Big Lake and Lake Cavanaugh.

The applicant selected to fill the seat will serve the remainder of the term, which ends on Aug. 31, 2027.

The Planning Commission works with the county's Planning and Development Services Department and advises the county Board of Commissioners on land use plans and regulations in unincorporated Skagit County.

This year, the Planning Commission will be working on developing regulations for clean energy facilities, and code amendments for accessory dwelling units, flood damage prevention and stormwater, according to a county news release.

The vacant District 2 seat was previously held by Amy Hughes, who resigned but did not give a reason as to why, said county spokesperson Jenn Rogers.

The county is in the process of interviewing candidates to fill a vacant District 3 seat on the Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission is made up of nine members who meet twice a month. Commissioners serve four-year terms.

The county is requesting that applicants for the District 2 seat submit a letter of interest including their name, address, phone number, and email address.

The letter of interest should also include a personal statement with relevant experience and expertise. Any affiliation with relevant interest groups should be disclosed in the letter.

Applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. June 19.

Applications can be emailed to commissioners@co.skagit.wa or mailed to 1800 Continental Place, Suite 100, Mount Vernon, 98273.
