Lewis County man accused of assaulting father, kicking door in

A Randle man faces multiple charges after he allegedly kicked his father's front door in and assaulted him.

Vince I. Zumwalt, 21, is charged with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault and two counts of third-degree malicious mischief, all considered domestic violence offenses.

First-degree burglary is a Class A felony punishable by up to life in prison.

Zumwalt made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court Thursday. A judge set bail at $10,000 cash or bond and granted the state's request for a no-contact order on behalf of the father, along with an order for Zumwalt to surrender any firearms within his possession.

As part of his release conditions, Zumwalt is allowed to go to and from his home but is prohibited from contacting his father or any witnesses.

Zumwalt and his father live in separate homes in the same neighborhood.

During the hearing, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Scott Jackson said Zumwalt had no criminal history. Defense attorney Rachael Tiller confirmed.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Zumwalt allegedly refused to leave his father's porch, and later kicked the locked front door in and hit his father "in the face."

The responding deputy noted the father's torn shirt and bloody nose. The father reported that he had told Zumwalt to leave "a number of times" and said Zumwalt had broken his phone.

A witness at the home reportedly corroborated much of the father's account.

The deputy also spoke with Zumwalt, who had "red marks on his forehead and neck area," according to the affidavit.

Zumwalt allegedly said he and his father "had gotten into a physical fight," but denied damaging the door, according to the affidavit. Zumwalt is scheduled for arraignment on June 11.
