Vancouver woman sentenced to 8 years in federal prison in Oregon brothers' fentanyl deaths
A Vancouver woman who sold counterfeit pills containing fentanyl that killed two brothers in 2020 was sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison Tuesday, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon.
Alondra Stephanie Trujillo, 34, received a 100-month sentence and three years of supervised release for her role in the deaths of Armando Valdivia, 26, and Esteven Valdivia, 28, of Woodburn, Ore. A judge also ordered she pay $6,349 in restitution.
She previously pleaded guilty May 13, 2025, to a charge of distribution of fentanyl. A federal grand jury in Portland indicted Trujillo on the distribution charge in October 2023.
The U.S. Attorney's Office, citing court records, said first responders and the men's mother tried to revive them after they suffered accidental fentanyl overdoses July 12, 2020. Despite those efforts, both men were pronounced dead. Investigators later found that Trujillo had sold the brothers counterfeit pills containing fentanyl a day before they died.
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine and 30 to 50 times more potent than heroin. A 2-milligram dose - roughly the size of a few grains of salt - can kill an average man, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
"This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the severe and destructive impact fentanyl has across our community," U.S. Attorney Scott Bradford said in the news release. "We are steadfast in our mission to pursue offenders who distribute this poison and endanger Oregonians."
April Miller, acting Homeland Security Investigations Seattle special agent in charge, warned that street drugs marketed as one thing often contain lethal amounts of fentanyl.
"This lengthy sentence won't bring back the brothers, but hopefully it will serve as a deterrent to anyone who thinks about engaging in this type of deadly deception," Miller said in the news release.
