Vancouver police arrest Navy sailor on child-rape, trafficking charges

Vancouver police arrested an active-duty U.S. Navy sailor last week for allegedly sexually abusing two underage girls at a hotel room he was living in while temporarily working in Portland.

Police said they arrested Andrew Guerrero, 20, on June 24 after receiving reports of multiple juveniles staying at a hotel in the 700 block of Southeast Columbia Shores Boulevard and having sex with a man.

Police found three boys, whose ages were not released, and two girls, ages 13 and 16, staying in the room registered to Guerrero, according to a Wednesday news release.

With assistance from the Children's Justice Center, investigators learned Guerrero met the teens about a month prior through social media and eventually began spending time with them in person, according to the news release.

Police said this eventually led to him moving the teenage girls into his hotel, where he began sexually exploiting and filming sexual acts with them. Police said Guerrero provided the teens with alcohol, the news release states.

Police placed both girls into protective custody.

Guerrero appeared June 26 in Clark County Superior Court, at which time a judge set his bail at $100,000. He is facing six counts of second-degree rape of a child and two counts of first-degree trafficking, according to court filings Wednesday.

"This investigation highlights the dangers of teens communicating with strangers online," the Vancouver Police Department said in the news release. The department urged parents to monitor their children's social media accounts and speak candidly with them about the dangers of online sexual exploitation and solicitation.
