Boy, 17, injured in shooting near Rainier Beach High, police say
Seattle police are investigating what led to a shooting that wounded a 17-year-old boy early Tuesday morning near Rainier Beach High.
King County medics transported the boy to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center to receive treatment for a gunshot wound on his back, according to an online blotter post by the Seattle Police Department.
Investigators determined the boy was in a vehicle with two other boys, ages 13 and 17, and an unidentified driver, traveling on Seward Park Avenue South, when someone fired a gun. A bullet struck the boy as the vehicle neared the Atlantic City Boat Ramp, police said.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3:30 a.m. and found evidence of a shooting near the ramp. King County sheriff's office deputies then notified police they had found a teenage boy with a gunshot wound in the Skyway neighborhood, about 2.5 miles south of the ramp.
Detectives determined the driver took the three teenage boys to the Skyway neighborhood after the shooting, dropped them off and left the area, police said.
