Southbound Highway 99 reopens after crash involving 2 on Lime bike

A man and a woman on an electric Lime bike were critically injured in South Lake Union on Monday morning after a truck hit them as they steered into traffic on Aurora Avenue North, police say.

The man and woman, who were both around 30 years old, were riding the same electric bike while another man with them was on another Lime vehicle, said Seattle police spokesperson Brian Pritchard.

As they were heading east on Roy Street, the man riding solo turned left onto a sidewalk on Aurora Avenue North, but the man and woman on the other bike went straight, crossing into three lanes of southbound traffic heading toward the barrier, Pritchard said.

They were hit by a truck shortly before 4:30 a.m., Pritchard said. Both were critically injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center. The driver, a 69-year-old man, didn't show any signs of impairment, police said.

The man who was riding by himself spoke with police after the crash. It's unclear how the three riders were connected, Pritchard said.

Southbound Aurora Avenue North was closed until about 7 a.m., Pritchard said.
