Seattle police arrest barricaded stabbing suspect after standoff

Seattle police say they arrested a man suspected of stabbing another person at a Georgetown apartment complex after seven hours of negotiations on Tuesday.

Police were called to the Martin Court apartment complex at 6188 Fourth Ave. S. around 2:30 a.m. for reports of a fight between neighbors, Seattle police Detective Eric Muñoz said.

The suspect stabbed another person in the chest and slashed them in the face, and that person was taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition, Muñoz said. SWAT team negotiators arrived on scene to assist in arresting the man.

They will use the minimum amount of force necessary to effect the arrest of the suspect," Muñoz said shortly before the man was taken into custody. "That's their goal.

The man barricaded himself in one unit and was believed to be armed with a knife and possibly a machete, Muñoz said. Other apartment units were not evacuated because police did not have evidence the suspect had a gun, Muñoz said.

The man was taken into custody for investigation of felony assault, he said.
