Northbound I-5 open in Seattle as work ends early

Seattle's big Interstate 5 weekend shutdown came toafinishahead of schedule, with crews completing work early Sunday morning and all northbound lanes reopened.

The weekend's disruption was set to run from Friday evening and to reopen as late as 5 a.m. Monday, as crews worked to clear concrete barriers and machines from the Ship Canal Bridge.

The freeway will be fully open as six FIFA Men's World Cup soccer matches get underway, with four northbound Ship Canal Bridge lanes instead of only the two that have been open lately.

On early Monday, express lanes will return to mornings southbound and evenings northbound, according to Washington State Department of Transportation. That will last until July 10, when another northbound closure is scheduled to get the work zone going again.
