Swimmer presumed dead in Lake Washington near Kirkland
A man swimming near Holmes Point on Lake Washington was presumed dead after disappearing early Saturday, according to police.
Emergency responders showed up around 1:30 a.m. after a man swimming with friends off a boat did not resurface, according to the Kirkland Police Department.
Kirkland Fire Department divers immediately began to search the area, which expanded to include the Seattle Harbor Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Search conditions were extremely challenging due to strong winds, rough water, and limited visibility," according to the statement by police. "Officers did not observe any signs of alcohol or drug impairment among the friends who were on the boat.
Crews have since switched from a rescue attempt to recovery efforts, according to police. The King County sheriff's office Marine Unit is set to continue the search.
