Tacoma's Grand Cinema open again after threat
Tacoma's Grand Cinema reopened Monday with increased security precautions after a threat made over the weekend led to the venue's closure on Sunday.
On Saturday, a person made threats to the cinema, prompting law enforcement to search the venue, according to Elizabeth Calhoun, executive director of the theater. The Grand Cinema stayed closed Sunday out of caution.
The Tacoma Police Department has thoroughly inspected The Grand Cinema twice and made clear to us that it is safe to reopen," Calhoun wrote in a Facebook post. "As a precautionary measure, we are increasing security measures to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers, audience members, and tenants of the building.
The theater will also ban bags inside the venue this week, she added. Theater officials do not believe the threat was associated with any of the venue's programming.
A spokesperson for the Tacoma Police Department said the agency didn't have any new information to share.
