Snow, crashes close 2 Washington mountain passes. Snoqualmie also getting hit
Chinook and Cayuse passes over the Washington Cascade Mountains were closed Saturday until at least Monday due to snow and crashes, said the Washington state Department of Transportation.
Snoqualmie Pass on Interstate 90 was open with traction tires advised about noon Saturday, but significant snowfall is forecast over the weekend.
The National Weather Service forecast 1 to 3 inches of snow Saturday, 2 to 4 inches Saturday night, 3 to 5 inches Sunday and 3 to 7 inches Sunday night at the I-90 pass.
The Department of Transportation was reporting snow showers and snow and slush on the roadway late Saturday morning.
At Chinook Pass up to 9 inches of snow was forecast for Saturday, with snow also continuing there through the weekend.
Interstate 84 in the Blue Mountains of Oregon could have light accumulations of snow through the weekend, according to the weather service.
Travelers should be prepared for early winter driving conditions, it said.
In the Tri-Cities, Sunday could be mostly sunny but rain is likely Monday night and Tuesday, according to the weather service forecast.
