Forecast calls for freezing temperatures, chance of snow the rest of the week
The great snowstorm of 2020 didn’t materialize overnight in the Olympia area as it did north of Seattle, but there’s still a chance of snow here the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
But even if it doesn’t snow, you will still want to bundle up. Daytime high temperatures won’t inch much higher than 32 degrees until Thursday, National Weather Service information shows.
Overnight low temperatures are forecast to sink to as low as 25 degrees Tuesday night in parts of Thurston County.
The chance of snow Tuesday is 30 percent, but there’s a greater chance of snow accumulation Wednesday and Wednesday night, the weather service data show.
By Thursday, temperatures warm a bit, bringing the possibility of rain or snow, and snow is still possible Friday.
Meanwhile, folks in the northern Puget Sound got the storm that was predicted with accumulations of 6 inches in some places.
Thousands were without power in the greater Seattle area, closing and delaying school. About 19,000 Puget Sound Energy customers were without power Monday morning along with more than 6,000 customers of the Snohomish Public Utility District.
Dozens of drivers were stranded Sunday night when U.S. Route 2, which runs across the northern portion of the state, became impassable for awhile because of tree and power line falls.
The 15-mile closure stretched from Gold Bar to Skykomish and lasted into Monday morning.
