Deadline Friday for editorial board, guest writers

A REMINDER: If you are interested in serving on either The Olympian’s Editorial Board or becoming a columnist with our Board of Contributors in 2016, get busy.

The deadline to apply is at 5 p.m. Friday. Both are volunteer positions and require knowledge of our community.

▪ The Editorial Board role requires weekly attendance at board meetings, helping editors craft editorial positions.

▪ The Board of Contributors consists of a handful of writers each of whom contribute 10 columns over the year – or almost one per month.

Here’s how to apply:

▪ For editorial board: Send a self-nomination letter including a description of your background and philosophy and what you’d bring to our board discussions. You may mail them to The Olympian, 111 Bethel St. NE, Olympia, WA 98506. Or you can send them electronically to: bshannon@theolympian.com, putting “Editorial Board” into the subject line.

▪ For Board of Contributors: Send a cover letter with information about your education, work and background. Tell us why you want to write a newspaper column. Include any particular area of expertise or passion, your political philosophy and writing experience. Also provide two writing samples of no less than 600 words on current topics. Send these to Board of Contributors, The Olympian, 111 Bethel St. NE, Olympia, WA 98506. Or send them electronically to: bshannon@theolympian.com, putting “Board of Contributors” into the subject line.

We want to hear from you by 5 p.m. Friday.
